A Bedouin murdered a soldier at Suez, and the affair led to a riot among the military in the course of which the Governor was subjected to outrage. The Rev. Father Robert Dunn has been appointed Bishop of Brisbane, and the Rev. Dr Cane has been appointed Bishop of Rockhampton. The British Government have agreed to make a present to the New South Wales Government of H.M.S. Wolverine, fully armed. Dec. 20. Prince Bismarck is recovering health. Since the catastrophe at the Hing Theatre, Vienna, the public have almost entirely forsaken the other theatres in the city. In order to restore confidence the lessees of the various theatres have formed a deputation to the Emperor, asking that experts be appointed to report on the means of egress from the buildings. Seventeen British sailors were arrested in New Orleans for causing a disturbance at a public meeting.
