A somewhat mysterious incident occurred this afternoon. About 1 o’clock a man was seen to enter Messrs Ogilvie and Byers’ yard hastily, and thrust something under a log lying in the yard, and then retreat with equal haste. His “ plant ” was taken out and found to be a handsome silver chain. The constable on the beat was then, called, and the man, who was still in view, pointed out to him. The constable took him into custody, and had got nearly to the police station with his prisoner, when the latter bolted and got clear away from the constable.
