A FINE OLD ENGLISH GENTLEMAN.

At a liberal demonstration recently held..at Manchester, Lord Hartington and John Bright were the principal speakers. It is reported that when Mr Bright rose, the audience rose too, a,nd the band played the. accompaniment to a verse of “The Fine Old English Gentleman,” which was sung by thousands of people. Afterwards the cheering was renewed and sustained with unremitting ardor. : When, at length Mr Bright began his speech, there was a brief disturbance, the only one that, interrupted the proceedings, and cries of “ Turn him out” gave the impression that some person in the audience was making himself obnoxious. It was explained, however, that the noise rose from an endeavor to see the orator better from some parts of the room, and one admirer expressed the sentiments of his neighbours by shouting. “They •want to look at 3 r ou, John!” After all, wc think it would be better to be John Bright than the Czar of All the Eussias. ■
