Russia and Germany.
London (undated). —Germany complains of Chazy and certain friends of the Ambassador of St. Petersburg, entering into an anti-German intrigue and fermenting discord between’Russia and Germany. [“Argus” Special.] Restitution. London, Jan. 2. —A fund has been iniated to compensate Edmund Galley, the released convict. Turkish obduracy and British determination.
The Turkish Ministry, : through jealousy of Layard’s influence with the Sultan, persisted in evasion, but 'is to be compelled to take a decisive stand. The Home Government regrets the incident, but supports Layard, who has received carte blanche in dealing with Porte. The Liberals approve of this proceeding. It is expected there will be a compromise. The German 1 and Austrian Embassies recommend the Porte to arrange the difficulty.
