Wm. Brown was charged with being drunk and disorderly, creating a disturbance in a licensed house, assault, and resisting the police., The landlord of the Caledonian hotel, at Temuka, stated that the accused was in his house on the previous day. He came in with some volunteers, had some dilnk, and wanted more. On being refused, he struck witness a violent blow on the month, cutting his lip. The Magistrate remarked that the last witness was very much to blame in allowthe accused to have any liquor when not sober. He should dismiss the charge of creating a disturbance in a licensed house, as the landlord was quite as .much to blame iu the matter as the accused. Accused Avould be lined 20s for being drunk, 10s for damage done fb property, three days imprisonment for resisting the police, and seven days tor the assault. He (the Magistrate) would not give accused the option of aline in the latter cases. Another inebriate was lined ss.
