Pto KR 3 7 Kt takes P K takes P 8 P to Q 4 (b) P to Q 3 (c) 9 B takes P Kt to B 3 10 B to B 4 ch K to Kt 2 11 Castles B to K 2 12 Q to Q 2 Kt to K R 4 13 B to K 3 B takes P (d) 14 R to B 7 ch K to Kt 3 15 P to K 5 Kt to Kt 6 16 QRtoKßsq P takes P 17 Q to Q 3 ch K to R 4 v 11 K R to B 5 ch B takes R White mates in two moves.
(a) White’s opening should prove unsound. He continues with a move which has the merit of novelty.
(b) If 8 B to B 4 ch, Black answers, 8 P to Q 4, and if then 9 P takes P, Black would proceed with 9 Kt to K 4, 10 B to Kt 3, 10 Bto Q 3. * (c) 8 P to B 6 seems to constitute Black’s best defence. (d) Suicidal. 13 B to B 3 was best we think, although not perfectly satisfactory.
