We would direct special attention to the announcement of Mr A. Inglis in our present issue.

We have received from the publisher, Mr R. T. Wheeler, Bradshaivs Guide for August. The little work is improving monthly. Admirers of the Laureate will be gratified to learn that he will form the subject of our next cartoon. Tennyson stands in the first ranks of the poets, and a biographical sketch of this great Bard must prove interesting to our readers.

No. 11. of our Indian Sketches entitled, «The Rajah of Coppertails,” will be commenced in our next issue. An able astronomical article entitled, “.Other Solar Systems,” will appear in our next number.

The New Zealand Volunteer Gazette for August is an improvement on the preceding numbers of that useful periodical. Besides several well-written original articles there is a quantity of extract matter of interest. Every volunteer in New Zealand should become a subscriber to this spirited journal. A lecture on “An Evening with the Lyric Poets,” will be delivered in Watsons’ Hall, by Mr Thomas Bracken, on the evening of Friday, the 17th inst., in aid of the Building Fund of All Saints’ Church. Watsons’ fine Hall is certainly the most comfortable lecture-room in the city, and as the proprietors have very generously placed it for this evening at the disposal of the ■Church Committee, we trust to see a large audience present.

A most enjoyable re-union of the Evening Star employes took place at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Albany street, on Friday evening last. Mr George Bell, the proprietor, invited the literary, commercial, and mechanical members of his establishment, with their families, to a soiree and ball. Able speeches were delivered by Mr Bell, and also •Jago and Gilbert Buchanan. Singing, •dancing, and recitations followed, and everyone present went home well pleased with the re-union.
