The stud horse Skylark, by Towton, out of Sky bird, died at Waipawa last week from inflammation. He was eleven years old, and was bred by the Hon. W. Robinson. The death is also announced of Mr Redwood’s brood mare Harakeke, dam of the wonderful little Korari, who was her first foal. Harakeke was nine years of age, bred by Mr Redwood, and was by St. Aubyn, out of Waimea.

The last steeplechase meeting of the season, held at Aramoho, near Wellington,' came off on Saturday last under unfavourable circumstances, as regards weather. The annual Steeplechase of 120 sovs, three miles, was won by Messrs M‘Rae and Nicholson’s Butcher Boy; Sultan, second; M.P.C., third. Medora and six others also started, but the first named came to grief at a fence. The Maiden Steeplechase of 30 sovs., two miles, was won by St. Alban’s; Comet, second ; Brilliant, third. The Gate Purse, of 5 sovs., was secured by Karahaka. The Australasian now has an accredited New Zealand correspondent, resident at Nelson, who is, I believe, a well-known authority on our turf matters.
