New Zealanders beaten by Vaiala. Australians win after an exciting finish at Malifa. Dunham makes his appearance.

The New Zealanders seem to have fallen from grace, for no apparent reason, and their showing on the last two Saturdays is propably due to lack of practice, for they have nor been up to their proper form ' , ~ * j •The game needs little description, consisting mainly of a lucky innings by a big hitter (Semisi) and a determined attempt by Hslliday and Mitchell to save the situation for New Zealand. Mitchell is showing greatly improved form, and is now really useful. Both teams were poor as regards bowling and fielding; the best showing was that of Faagi (Vaiala). Details: Vsiala. F. Malifa cricket field was the scene of a very exciting finish last Saturday, when "the Aussies" defeated Malifa by the narrow margin of three runs. The school team totalled 99 rnns (Neli playing a good innings for 54). Australia seemed to be suffering from a drought, with five wickets down for. eleven runs, but a change cante when Cathie and Pettitt were associated,, :jthe next wicket falling with the sfcore at 51, *i which Cathie had made 25, this being the highest individual score for Australia. Three more wickets then fell for an addition of only seven runs, and the total for ten wickets was 61; so at this stage the hopes of victory for Australia had almost disappeared; but Hill, who had been playing the game of his life, and fas still at the wickets, was joined by Mather, and good, sound, batting and by careful judgment on the part of both batsmen the score was lifted from 61 to 92, when Mather was caught out; and what had , ljoked like a sure defeat ended in victory—-

honours of the day were with Hill and Mather. A big help to the "Aussie" side was the unearthing of cricketer Dunham, who promises to become a successor to ). Blackham behind the stumps. The schoolboy's were. enthusiastic throughout the game, and were undoubtedly unlucky to be defeated.
