In the Case of Humanity

(To the Editor “Samoa Times.”) Sir,—The ' news which reaches us here in these favoured lands of the distressing condition of the peoples of Europe cannot but move the hearts of all who love their fellow-men. Both, in the papers from England and in those -; as t received from New Zealand, the accounts of the poverty and hunger of vast numbers of families in Central Europe are most heart-rend-ing, and more especially is this the case with the children, thousands of whom are suffering from conditions bordering upon actual' famine, Both America and Great Britain have already done a great deal to alleviate the present distress, but the need is still most urgent, and it behoves those of us who are living in a land of plenty to show our practical sympathy for the suffering children, even in those countries with which we were so recently at war. As I see that efforts are being made in New Zealand to collect and forward Funds to feed and clothe the children of Central Europe, I suggest that we who live in Western Samoa start at once a similar Fund, and I am sure that the ICditor of the “Samoa Times” will gladly receive contributions. for such a Fund, and will acknowledge all sums given in his paper; or if friends so desire it, I will also be willing to receive any sum sent to me for this purpose, lam hoping to get the children of our Protestant Sunday School to collect what they can each Sunday for a few weeks, We can then arrange to forward the amount raised by the next steamer to Auckland, I am, In the interests of the famishing children, Yours faithfully, FRANK P. JOSELAND, Pastor Apia Protestant Church. (We refer to the above in our Editorial note.—Ed> S.T.)
