His Excellency the Administrator, Colonel Tate, was represented by Capt R J. Carter, ADCThe whole evening's arrange ments were most lavishly carried out tbe hours up to midnight being whilcd away in dancing and music Shortly after 9 30 p m , the Rev. W E Clarke took occasion to present to the bride, on behalf of the minister, office bearers and' .congregatiou oi the Apia Church, a beautiful testimonial worked on tapa hs gilt lettering. Before banding over the gift tbe Rt-v. Clarke made handsome ref rences to Mrs Newton's conspicuous part in the affairs o* the Church. He.characterised her as the most popular young lady in Apia She bad endeared herself to htr fellow workers and scholars in . such a way-that inspired the officers ot the Church to prepare the testimony with the warmest affection He congratulated Mr Newton on his well made choice and trusted that-Mrs. Newton would prove as worthy a substitute in the Church's interests as Miss Gladys Syddall Was. The presentation was greeted with considerable applause The bride stepped forward in her bridal robes and accepted the gift, to which Mr. Newton, on his wife's behalf, suitably responded. Mr O F Nelson several appropriate remarks testifying to the winning and endearing qualities of the recipient The following is a copy of the testimonial: — "To Miss Gladys Elvira Syddall. We the undersigned minister and office-bearers of the Apia English Church and Congregation desire to express onr heartfelt prayers and good wishes for your happiness and. prosperity on the occasion of your marriage. ** We wish to assure you that we all regard you with warm affection ; and to bear testimony to the yalue of your Christian character and in fluence. We desire also gratefully to acknowledge the service ypn> have so faithfully and admirably rendered both in the choir and Sunday School. We trust that you may lo:ig be able to continue in. Christian Fellowship with us; and we pray that in tbe new home you are about to create the-guidance arid blessing of our Loving* God may ever be shared by yon and yours. " Signed on behalf of the Apia English Church and Congregation : W. E. Clarke, W J. Nicholl, A. J Tattersall, R Ayld, O F.tfelsoo. p. E Pattrick and-: Prank B Joselaud." One room .was set apart for the many presents, upwards of 100, too numerous to enumerate Amongst the most conspicuous were several almost priceless Samoan mats pre seated by the chiefs and natives of the villages of Fasitoo and Laulii, as well as. several cheques, one of which was given by the father of the bride, and also a cheque from the Apia British Club to the bridegroom The beautiful 5-tier wedding cake was made locally by Mr. Neilson, a very fine and worthy accomplishment ot the confectioner's art.

One very interesting phase of the was that of the presence of the chiefS and natives of Fasitoo and Laulii who have a warm and very high regard for the Syddall family. It may be mentioned that Mrs. Syddall is a niece of Malietoa Tanu, one of the highest chiefs in Samoa, and is also closely related to Mataafa. The music of the Apia Band, • under the baton of- conductor • loane, and composed entirely of Samoans, was quite a feature of the evening.
