Mr. A. A. Chapman, the gonial and unassuming manager of the local office of the U.S.S. Co., who has been acting in that position for the past four months, during Mr. Mackenzie's absence on leave in New Zealand, took his departure by the outgoing Tallin e. Mr. Chapman during the short period he has spent in Apia has won for himself the well-deserved encomiums of those who have had the pleasure to come in contact with him. He has been extremely courteous and obliging to the travelling community, • who wish him all success in whatever sphere the U. S. S. Co may place him. Outside business life in social circles, he has made a host of warm friends, judging by the several functions which have been held in his honour during the past week. In wishing Mr. Chapman all prosperity and the best of wisnes, we are only voicing the common sentiment.
It is not generally kuown i that Mr. Chapman is the holder of the Military Cross . for meritorious work" at the ' Front.
Mrs. Tate, wife of His Excellency the Administrator, and her two childreu, were amongst the passengers who arrived by the " Tahme. "
It is officially announced that the new Harbourmaster appointed by the Administration is Capt. G. Edwards, who now holds the position of Head Stevedore for the Shaw, Savill and' Albion Co. Ltd., Wellington. Capt. Edwards has had.many years,' experience of both sail and steam ships in Chiria seas, etc., where he had charge of Chinese and Malay crews, and has also had considerable experience oflighter work. Capt. Edwards is to leave New Zealand for Apia by the September "Talune. "
Miss Groves left by the ss. Taluue for Tonga, on a mouth's vacation.
Captain J. M. Gillespie, Provost Marshal, is a passenger on the outgoiug*Talune, It is his intention to proceed to New Zealand for medical advice, and is hoping to return by the next Talune.
Mr, James T, Schulenburg, of the Military Liquidators' staff, desires it to be generally known that he has been officially advised that his uame has been altered to that of James T, Dunlop, and in future will be known as such.
