Children's Field Day at Multnuu.
With the Allies' Arch, nearing completion and the Samoa Arch at Tivoli Corner in course of erection, the Waterfront affords tangible evidence of the many activities afoot in preparation for the celebration of Peace. Besides the two structures mentioned, there are four other arches in course of construction. The British Arch will be located by the Customs' House; French Arch at Burns, Philp's corner, Matafele ; China Arch at the Chinese Commissioner's Office or Post Office; American Arch, by H. J. Moors' store. Work on all four is proceeding, and their erection will take place in due course. The Samoa Arch at Tivoli Corner, judging by present appearances, gives promise of being a commanding structure of no inconsiderable artistic merit. Its supporting pillars, with the platform overhead, are already in position, and al? though the work of erection is still in the initial stages, the symmetrical lines of the square-sided columns have been deservedly admired. Quite evidently the Natives will hold their own in the art of decoration suitable to the great occasion. Various committee meetings have been held during the past week, of which reports are given below.
