ANOTHER BIG SHOW
WELLSFORD FIXTURE
Successful Display
. A very large crowd attended fc| IQ . Wellsford Show on Saturday last, the gate takings of £134 being only £2 below last year's figure. In view of the fact that heavy mm was experienced during' the morning in practically all the outlying centres, this attendance figure was very .grati' fying to the executive. Entries in all the outside classes were very good, horses being worthy of particular mention. During the grand parade, 50-odd horses were to l)e seen in the ring together, uaauy of them coming from as far away as Auckland and Whangarei. Sheep entries were also particularly high, and pigs, Jerseys and Shorthorns, were well up to last year's standard,, if not in excess thereof. The indoor entries, from a numerical point of view, were not quite us. large as was anticipated, the main factor influencing this being the' rather unfavourable season for field and garden produce. Nevertheless, the hall was well filled with exhibits and the executive desires to thank all those who assisted in making such a great show. Approximately £180 in prize moneywas paid out on the ground on Show day and the principal prize-win-ners are set out hereunder. The large bullock, estimated to weigh 1,3001b5. was the centre of attraction in the cattle yards, and itis safe to say practically everyone at the Show made a point of seeing, this enormous bensfc. The Agricultural Department's exhibit, which was an outstanding one, was also packed at nearly all stages of the day, and it would be safe to say that 1,500 to 1,700 people passed through their tent. The side-shows, under the capable direction of Mr Beckett, did brisk business all day long, and the proceeds thereof will considerably, augment the Society's funds.' The catering, which was let to acombined Red Cross and Patriotic Committee, also received great support, and the above committees will benefit to the extent of about £30 for their work on the.day.
