KAIPARA FLATS
The singing of the,lnstitute odeopened the well-attended annual meeting of,, the Kaipara Flats Women's Institute ~on the sth March. After the preliminaries arising from the last; monthly meeting had been dealt with, the secretary read her report which was an excellent review of the year's work. Of special interest was the enumeration of o~ large number of gift parcels which had been forwarded to the Patriotic Board. It was evident that Institute members had lent themselves readily and with meritorious resulla to the provision of knitted comforts and other articles fot the troops overseas. The report also contained reference to a number of demonstrations including'pattern-cutting and dressmaking, pine-needle work, cake decorating" and Red Cross bandaging, etc., given by ladies skilled in ther arts. The balance sheet showed an appreciable credit balance. The president's address touched upon the business and social activU ties of the preceding year and ex*pressed satisfaction as regards both. It also made reference to..the con' siderable sum pf money raised for Patriotic purposes by the running of card parties during the winter months, and concluded with the president's personal thanks to members for their co-operation and help.
Officers elected for the ensuing year are as follow : —Mesdauies Tuiv ner, Joy and Blade were re-elected as president and vice-presidents re' spectively ; secretary, Mrs 0. W- An* drewß ; treasurer, Mrs Tyler-Davies J press correspondent, Miss K. Andrews. The committee comprises, Mesdauies Turner, Joy, Blatle, TylerDavies, Moyes, Guy, JBaw&ings, C, Andrews, Davie Martin, Thomson, •Misses M. Adolph, M. Henderson and E. Andrews. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Miss M. Henderson, retiring secretary ; Mrs S. Hood, retiring committee member of seven years standing and Mrs H. Hughes, who had so ably conducted the monthly competitions for several years past. Each lady was presented with a dainty posy as a token of appreciation for her valuable services, Five new members were welcomed, after which Mrs Blennerhassett gave the "Golden Thread;' talk. 'This was followed by two delightful songs by Miss Sutherland, a visiting lady. The entries in the "bowl of flowers competition made a bright, display with asters and marigolds predominating. Mrs 11. Hughes was first,, M i-b Tyler-Davies second and MrsOldfinld third. , During 'afttjrnootr te?n the points urrz«, d<»nated IfiTMisTyler Davies for the entrant: gaining the hi^heßt innnber of ijoints in the conipotil.ions, was awarded to Mrs Joy with 33.
