Mounted Rifles Parade
There was a good muster of men of No. 3 Troop, Kaiuara Squadron, Independent Mounted Rifles at a parade held at Kaipara Flats last Saturday. On this occasion the men were provided with horses kindly made available by farmers of the district. Lt.- Col. J. C. E. Wyatt, second iucommand of the Squadron, was in charge of the parade, the troop leader being Lt. A. P. Story. During the morning the troop practised section drill and rifle exercises and in the afternoon carried put a tactical scheme on the Tauhoaßoad. Generous Gifts Anxious to contribute their bit towotid the Empire^ war effort, a number pf inmates of a home for indigent old ladies in Auckland recently handed to Mis I. King, secretary of the Warkworth Entertainment Committee, 7 scarves, 6 balaclavas and an envelope containing an appreciable sum of mon«y. We learn that the woollen articles were knitted by the donors after first purchasing the material, The noble nature of the women who made these gifts will be 'all the more appreciated when consideration is given to their spartan mode of living and meagre allowances. - P. Tread well (skip), Roy Grant, D. Richardsonsand W. Booth, members of the Albertland Bowling Club, participated in the Rinks tournament at Ruawai last week-end. Enlargement of Golf Course The Wellsford Golf Club recently completed the purchase of an area of approximately 33 acres adjoining the present links, which will enable.the course.to be extended to 18 holes. Member of Veteran's Team W. Dunning, of Big Omaha, wellknown County cricketer, is included in the Auckland veteran's team which travels to Wellington to-morrow nighb to play a match against a Wellington .veteran's eleven on the Basin Reserve on Friday and Saturday. Land Board Election An election will be held on April 23 for the.elective time-expired seat on the North Auckland Land Board now occunied by Mr Thomas O'Carroll, of Maungakaratnea. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, MrjL. J. Poff, announces that Mr O'Carroll will stand for re-election, and that two other candidates have been nominated in Mr A. McL. Wright, of Takahue, and Mr D. Kitchen, of Kaitaia. •■•-.-.
