A little salt added to the starch will make the iron run smoothly. .
A little lemon juice added fco cream will cause it to whip quickly.
■One teaspoon of ammonia added to a quart of water is a useful preparation for renovating navy serge.
Washing blue mixed with methylated spirits makes an excellent paste for cleaning mirrors. t
When poaching eggs add a squeeze of lemon or a few drops of white vine : gar and the eggs will firm beautifully.
Boil orange pool for a couple of minutes before slicing and you will save much hard work in the preparation fur marmalade.
An onion find a sprig of sage,,chopped finely and cooked in the pan after frying steak of chops, will give an appetising gravy. Season and thicken.
Ink stains may be removed from fibres, wood or leather by the application! of oxalic acid dissolved in water. This acid is a deadly poison, so must be used with caution.
If it is desired to keep vegetables green when cooked boil in plenty of water, with the lid off the saucepan. A little, baking soda added to the water will soften peas, beans or cabbage.
Slice up onions and tomatoes in about equal proportions and cook in the pan in which steak or.chops have been fried. Season with pepper and salt. When soft thicken with a little cornflour and water, and you will have a savoury sauce.
A little salt added fco the blue water, when clothes are being blued, will help'to distribute the colour evenly and'prevent patches.
