OBITUARY

Mil. J. G. CATRAN

The death lias occurred of Mr James George Catran, headmaster of the Cambridge District, High school. Mr Oat rail was born in Auckland and spent .'much of his early life at 'Thames, lie was appointed to the ; sla£f of the Parawai school, and later ■held appointments atTairua, Waipukurau, Maramarua, Hoia Tlora (Whangarei), Devenport.and Newton East. At tho age of 24 he was appointed headmaster of the Whitford school, and later he held similar positions at Woodhill, Waiuku Kaupaki, Te Kopuru, Warkworth and Cambridge. He had been headmaster of the Cambridge District High School for five years. Mr Catran took a keen interest in cricket, swimming, football and bowling. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
