Christmas Tree
MAtakaisa Children's Festival
On Friday lust the Mafcakana Hall was the sceue of a festive gathering for young and old when the eagerlyawaited arrival of Santa crowned weeks of expected joy for the local children. 'The building echoed to the cheers of over a hundred young enthusiasts as the patron saint, ably supported by Mickey Morse, pedalled his precarious'way up the body of the hall on a push bike to take his place beneath, a Xmas Tree wonderoua to behold. Their rousing welcome was the prelude to two hours of lusty merriment as toy after toy was placed in eager hands, and duly tried out by its new owner. The antics of Miukey Mouse caused much amusement for all. and Santa had to keep one eye on Mickey as he would persist in playing tricks on the lady helpers. When at last the time came to clear the stage and Sautn took his reluctant departure, free ices and sweets were given to each child and the hall was prepared for dancing. The favourite dance for the children waS "Boomps a-Daisy." Mr T. McCarthy, of Wark worth, generously donated three prizes for a spot waltz which was won by Alwyn Jones and partner; -June Smith and partner; and BobNeeley and partner. Dancing was kept going with a good swing by the M.C;, Mr Walden, until midnight, which brought a most enjoyable even iug to a close.
