JUNIOR FOOTBALL. Whangarei v. Rodney Juniors. One of the best games of football played at Port Albert for some time was enjoyed by those present on Saturday last when the Whangarei Union third grade representative team played the Rodney juniors for the Powell Shield. The match resulted in a win tor Mie visitors by 19 points to 11. The kicking", tackling and passing work of both sides was of a high standard, but the outstanding feature was the goal-kicking of Joss, for Whangarei, who secured a penalty goal and converted a try from a difficult angle. The ground was in good order and the ball was well handled in several nice passing movements by both sides. The Rodney fullback, Linton King, played a good game, both fielding and kicking well. For the winners tries were scored by J. Calder (2), Paterson and Eyfe, while Joss converted one try and kicked a penalty and F. Parkes converted a try. Rodney's points came from tries by Robertson (2), and McWatt, one being converted by L. King. Whangarei were at a disadvantage for a while in the first spell in playing immediately after a long bus trip, but they improved as the game progressed. Mr H. L. Becroft, of Port Albert, was referee. The visiting team was entertained to dinner at Wellsford before returning home, the function being in charge of Mr E. R. Becroft, president of the Rodney Rugby "Union. Schoolboys visit to Whangarei. The Rodney schoolboys who were fortunate enough to make the journey to Whangarei last week to compete for the Northern Roller Milling Coy's Shield, had a wonderful time. Though they lost every match they gained much experience and had a thoroughly good time, the Whangarei people going to a lot of trouble in entertaining the visitors. On Sunday afternoon 64 cars took a large number of the boys on a scenic trip which was much appreciated. One day a special train was provided to take the boys to the cement works at Portland, where they were shown all the manufacturing processes of cement. On two evenings the boys were guests at the picture theatres. The boys were mostly billetted out at private houses where they were made comfortable. E. L.
