WEDDING
Hooper—Schollum
The marriage was celebrated on Thursday last at the Warkworth Catholic Church, by Rev. Father Skinner, of Eene, fifth daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Scholium, of Big Omaha, to Mr L. Hooper, of Hawkes Bay. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a frock of white satin and lace corsage, with a cowl neckline, finished with spider-webbing inlet into the sleeves. A graceful train of white satin fell from a godet, and a plaited girdle falling from the waistline completed a beautiful creation, made as a wedding present by one of the bride's friends. Her veil consisted of an embroidery tulle coionet falling to form a second train, caught on either side by sprays of orange blossom.
The bridesmaid, Miss F. Hendl, wore a dress of powder blue crepe mineola with lace sleeves and a shirred neckline, the skirt falling into a small train and finished with a silver lame sash. She wore a silver plaited halo trimmed with blue forget-me-nots and bows of lace matching the sleeves of the frock.
Little Joy Withers looked dainty as flower-girl in a dress of powderblue net over satin, trimmed with horse-shoes of pink and blue forget-me-nots, and completed with a sash of the same style. Her head-dress consisted of a bandeau of blue for-get-me-nots. The bride carried a bouquet of paper-whites and maidenhair fern, while her attendants carried posies of pink carnations and maidenhair fern. .
The bride's brother, Mr Albert Scholium, was best man. At the reception held in the Matakana Hall in the evening Mrs Scholium received her guests in a gown of maroon silk marocain. She carried a posy in autumn colours. The hall was decorated with blue and white streamers radiating from a horse-shoe in the centre of the hall, blue and white arum lillies and horseshoes tied with blue ribbon. Over the bride's table on the stage was suspended a large white wedding bell from which white streamers hung. A.-.yery .large, .number of friends were present and dancing to music by Holland's orchestra occupied the evening. The supper was a bounteous one and. was thoroughly enjoyed by all. . Among those at the bride s table at. supper time were Mrs D. Jones, wearing a frock of maroon velvet trimmed with silver lame ; Mrs R. Gollings, white georgette and lace ; Mrs A. Wilinot, brown figured marocain ; Mrs P. Withers, deep violet satin trimmed with grey ; Miss Linda Scholium, moss rose pink lace over satin with silver girdle; Miss Eleanor Scholium, apricot crinkle crepe and net; Miss Betty Hooper, printed taffeta. After supper compliments were sung to the bride and bridegroom and the bride's and bridegroom's parents. At the conclusion of the festivities Mr R. Smith thanked Mr and Mrs Scholium, on behalf of the guests, for their hospitality. Mr Withers replied for Mrs Scholium, thanking all the helpers, especially Mrs W. Dunning and Mr T. H. Waiden. The guests -then accorded the bridal couple 4'Auld Lang Syne" and called for a -speech from Mr Hobper, who complied in his usual breezy manner. During the evening Mr Ken Brown played several extras and Mr T. H. Waiden acted as M.C. with his usual efficiency. The newly-weds later left for the South, the bride wearing a travelling costume of brown tweed witih outfit to match. Cabd Evening. The Church of England card evening was again well attended, ten tables being arranged. Prizewinners were Mr and Mrs Donald Jones, with Mrs Migounoff and Mr Jim Smith runners up. Mrs Seymour Smith and Mr^. Matthew qualified for the consolation prizes. Football. Some good handling by Port Albert backs provided the only interesting points in the match at Matakana on Saturday. Matakana's exhibition was poor and decidedly not up to standard. Although early in the game the teams seemed fairly evenly matched, Port Albeit soon showed their supremacy in passing. Matakana's only try by Jones, who took a good pass from B Sharp near the
line was not converted. Points for Port Albert were scored by Neal, with a pennlty, Blackburn and Bennet, and the match ended with a score of 9 —3 in favour of the visitors
