PORT ALBERT NOTES
(Own Correspondent.)
Word has just been received of a motor accident which happened on the West Coast road at Wharehine, when a car containing six persons proceeding citywards, in endeavouring to pass another car going north, had a miraculous escape from injury. The spot where the mishap occurred is a very narrow portion of road and on the left a very steep bank of abort thirty feet. It appears that in pa. - sing the oncoming car the one containing the six passengers went too near the edge with the result that the road'gave way and the car capsized, going over twice in her fall down the bank. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and the car was not extensively damaged. Women's Institute. The monthly meeting of the Port Albert Women's Institute was held on Thursday, 18th inst., at the residence of Mrs Percy Tread well. Mrs G. H. Smith presided over a large attendance. After the business had been dealt with the members gathered round the roomy kitchen where Mrs Tread well demonstrated the art: of making puff pastry. All were very interested and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the demonstrator for her tfouble and care.
A knitting display caused a good deal of interest, there being quite a variety of hand-made goods. A woollen rug made of 6 inch squares knitted by members was sewn together and is to be forwarded to some charity. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdame* W. Gubb, F. Reid and R. Gubb.
