A couple of ■ 'countryl, cousin resolved to pay\London a visit They were warned by thei friends to keep both eyes open o they would come back wiser men One day, however, they carriec out their wish and enjoyed them selves immensely,, but before re turning they entered a place o refreshment and soon were com plimenting themselves on thei absence of misadventure. -
Presently a stranger of sma] stature .entered, and it was no very long before he; got into con versation with them. .'...,■
; " You strapping fellows may hiugh at my size,"" he said, "bu appearances are deceptive. I'l Wager you five shillings eachtha if you held the chair a.t-, arm', length yqu ; would drop it before '. should."
• They laughed at so simple a test of strength.; " Well,, put, your money with mine on the table, and one of you start while I time you by my watch. 1' ...'; ~
This was done, and at the em of ten mintites the one holding the chair had to give in. The stranger, instead of trying his strength, calmly took all the money and put it in his pocket saying: •'
"I've won, gentlemen ! I'saic you would drop it before I did and so you have 1" ■ And with that he departed.
