OBITUARY

Mrs. S. J. Lushington

Another of our old residents, Mrs S. J. Lushington passed away to her long home yesterday. To those who, in past years, travelled to and from this district by steamer the name of Lushington was very familiar, their residence at Mahurangi Heads being a well-known place of call by steamer-, and also by all yachtsmen and cruisers. The late Mr Lushington, who predeceased his wife nanny years, was connected with an old English family of that name, and the home at Mahurangi Heads contained many rare and valuable family heirlooms—pictures, silver, books, etc., all of which the owners were always pleased to show to visitors. Warkworth folk will always have good reason to remember the name of Lushington, as when leaving the old home some two or three years ago Mrs Lushington donated to the Warkworth .Library some 300 volumes of literature, ranging from 150 to 250 years old, which have been much appreciated by booklovers —both local and visiting —and will become increasingly valuable as> the years roll on.

After living at Mahurangi Heads for upwards of 40 years, Mrs Lushington, moved to Eemuera, where the end came at the ripe age of 87 years.
