KITCHEN EVENING.
A most enjoyable tirao was snent_ in the Oddfellows' Hall «m the 15th in stant., when a kitchen evening was tendered to Miss Barren, who is shortly to be married. In batween the dances and games Mr »r«nda Tavlnr presented the brM-to be with a bouquet of kitchen n-oessitie* intermingled with asparagu* fern on behaltof! those present. Music was supplied by the Dixie Five. The prize for the menu competition was won by. Mrs Hoysted with Miss Lawrie at fee other end. Gifts were so numerous that two large clothes baskets were required to remove them.
A. meeting of delegates selected Mr W Middleton, barrister and solicitor, of Waitara, as the Reform candidate for the New Plymouth seat at the general election. The seat is at present held by the Hon. S.. G. Smith, Minister of Labour.
