RAILWAY BOOKING FACILITIES.
The Railway Department announces that commencing on Mouday, '2nd December, it will be possible for intesiding passengers to purchase their tickets and rese ye peats or sleeping berths at any time prior to the com mencemwit of their journey. Up to the present these preliminary travel arrangements couid be made only during a restr ct« d period of 14 days ahead of travel dnt,e. The new sys tern will become effective during the period of the issue of Xroas end New Year holiday excursion tickets (see advertisement in this issue) and should prove a helpful factor cowards elimina ting; the congestion inevitably associa ted with the handling of the/heaviest holiday traffio of the year. The Department points out that the arrangement is being introduced as a trial measure only, and its permanent adoption is "Vprndent on the extent to i which it it) used.
