ECHOES OF THE DISTRICT.

WHAT PEOPLE OF ALL PARTS ARE

SAYING.

That this district is entitled to a High School, which would save parents expense and inconvenience, and add to the advantages of the district in the eyes of those contemplating settling here.

That it would cost the Department very little to elevate the Warkworth School to the required status.

That the number of candidates presented for the highest standard at the recent examination affords justification for hope in thiss&onnection.

That if it be true, as stated at many Council meetings, that wandering cattle are not only a nuisance and a danger, but also a cause of. loss to ratepayers, owing to injuring watertables, then there ought to be something more than resultless chat about it.

That the appointment of a ranger appears to be the only solution, seeing that it is not a police job (unless an information is laid.)

That the Tow-n Board should have learned by this time whatsis the Public Works Department's exact attitude re the Bonemill Bridge, in view of the recent general letter of warning.

That the main thing to be borne in mind is that the bridge ought to be replaced quickly, of one day it will collapse, and cattle will have to be driven through the town.

That tenders for the Rodney County Hospital should have been out ere this.

That there is not sufficient publicity afforded in this district in the matter of railway excursions and alterations of ordinary timetables.

That the Department appears to havi-- very little knowledge of its territory north of Helen sville, and should be invited to equip itself with further information.

That is if it really desires more and m^.re people to use the railway, which sometimes there is reason to doubt.

That Mangawai probably holds the district record in respect of efforts made on behalf of the Patriotic Funds, and bearing in mind the sparsely populated character of that area.

That.some other bridges will follow the example of the Puhoi drawbridge, without the aid of a steamer, if they are not quickly replaced.

That local bodies can get a better return than the Works Department for money spent on roads and bridges, except, perhaps, in respect of the larger bridges.
