ORDINATION OF AN ELDER.
A very interesting function is the ordmation and induction of an elder in the Presbyterian Church. The forms of the service are very ancient and impressive. In the year 1560 at Edin- ■ borp» we read of John Knox ordaining elders. No masonic function ever can be more solemn than this ceremony of setting aside a layman to the office of a ruling elder. The dignity and honor of this position in the Church may be judged by the manner in which the great writers, lan Maclaren ahdßarrie refer to the elders of the kirk. We understand that Mr W T Stanton, of Matakana, has been elected to this office and will be ordained and inducted next Wednesday evening in theWarkworth Presbyterian Church. We offer Mr Stanton our congratulations and hope he will in the exercise ot his duties win the esteem of all the members of hia Church.
