DESERVED THE JOB.
Outside the office door the head clerk hung a notice informing all and sundry that Messrs. Scott and Lot wanted a smart boy.
Having fixed it to his satisfaction, he stood for a few moments on the doorstep to watch its effect on the youth of the town.
Half a dozen budding Rothschilds passed it, with but a casual glance, inside the first two minutes. The seventh paused, read it, carefully -took it down and carried it into the office.
"Hi!" said the office potentate. "What the dickens are you doing with that notice?"
"Takin' it back to the office, of course!". answered the solemn j'outh. "What for?"
"It says Scott and Lot want a smart boy, dont it? Well, I'm.'im!"
