REPLY TO MR. POULSEN.
To THB 7 Editor.
Sib,—Kindly grant me a small space m your valuable paper to reply to Mr Poulsen's letter of last week. Ihe rock drier man and the pan mill staff were working under olause<?of our late agreement, which read aa follows :y Where shifts are worked, the working time per week shall not exceed eight hour's per day, and a shift snail constitute eight hours' work." As the men in question only worked 48 hours per week we fail to see where *nythmg was done contrary to agreement. Re money earned by the quarry workers, the^ most tegular attendant averaged £2 9s>per week for the, half- ! year ending August 31st,, holidays includef, and there was no reason why the remainder of the men could not nave earned the same amount, or more, if they were not afraid of a shower of rain. Re the millers earnings. Taking one from each departmeat we find that they were paid on an average for the. half year ending August 31st, holidays included, £3 9s 7d per week and £3 3s 3d per week, respectively, and what one man can earn another can if he attends to his work. I leave the public to draw their own conclusions from the above tacts.—Yours, etc., ' to ' T.H. Wilson, Works Manager Wilsons Portland Cement Co., Ltd. '
