Hydro Electric Scheme.
On the 9th .inst the consulting engineer visited the district and accompanied by a number of residents of Hoteo North and Wayby inspected the falls. Being winter the expert was unable to make definite calculations of the amount of water available in summer but from tests conducted last March, after the long, dry spell, he considered the falls on account of the high working head of between 250 and- 300 ft would yield ample power to supply the district for many years to! come. The project he considered an ideal-one, not only on I account of the proximity of the power house site to the railway line but because of the firm and rocky formation of the back country, which woutd lend itself ideally for the purpose of damming up enormous quantities of water at small expense, should the extension of the scheme warrant this in future years. From the financial point of view the report was considered very satisfactory on account of aforesaid xjonditions, and should the license be obtained, in good time the residents of Hoteo, armed with the most modern and -up-to-date form of light, heat, and . power, should- no longer dread the approach of a dark and dismal winter.
