Mick was a tramp "ov grate persuasion," and frequently boasted that "sora wan ivir he axed cud be refusin' him."
One day in his journey he encountered the new parish curate, whom he promptly proceeded to "put the spake on him." Judging from his cloth, Mick thought "he'd nothin' till do bud axe fur a thrifle ov the needful," and felt surprised when his request met with no response.
Seeing the look of disappointment, his reverence remarked: "I'm sorry, I've nothing to spare."
Mick: Gad bliss yer rivirince, Oi don't want till hey a bad name on mesilf; here's a pinny fur' yer noight's lodgin'."
