Correspondence.

HIGH SCHOOL

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —With your kind prrmission I would like to state for the information of "Parent," parents of the WaTkworth children and also of the parents of any children within a fifteen mile radius, that the Warkworth School Committee {has secured the necessary information for the Establishment of a District High School at Warkworth, this information ha§ only been received this month and is as follows.

That at least twenty qualified pupils are required before the Minister's approval of the establishment of a district can be obtained.

That holders of certificates of Proficiency are admitted as Free Pupils. That the subjects taught are now chiefly concerned with a preparation for the Public Examinations, Civil Service, Matriculation, Teachers D and C, and incidentally afford a further and highly useful training in work begun in the primary school.

That a junior free place at a district high school is tenable until the holder has reached his or her seventeenth birthday but no longer.

The Warkworth Committee will now endeavour to secure the necessary promise of pupils locally, and at the" same time ask the assistance of the other school committees within the vicinity of Warkworth to co-operate with them to make it a success, as there is not the slightest doubt that a' high school established in Warkworth would give opportunities to many that cannot now avail themselves of the town school.

Yours etc. T.H. Wilson Chairman Warkworth School Committee.
