LEIGH WHARF.

To the Editor,

Sir,—Allow me space through the medium of your paper " re the above." I have been waiting some time time thinking some abler pen than mine would take this matter up. Early last March tenders were called for building a wharf at Leigh and up to the present time of writing no start has been made although the contract time (I have been given to understand) has now expired. I think it is the duty of our engineer to see that contractors be made to fulfil their contracts aecordinging to stipulated time, if not, enforce the penalty and not allow contractors to go as they please which seems to he in this case. It appears to me the ratepayers are going to be put to the samo inconveniences by the blockago of traffic at the wharf as they did in the building of the Rodney County Council's "White Elephant" stone crusher. Last year the approach to the wharf was a disgrace, there scarcely being sufficient room for two waggons to turn round owing to lumber being scattered about, and it seems as if we are going to havey.thje same trouble this coming season during the busy time of carting instead of having it done when there is little traffic at the wharf. I think it is_ also the duty of the ratepayers to see^mese things are not allowed to go on as they have in the past. Yours &c. Ratepayer. [The above letter was received as we went to press last week.—Ed."]
