Grazing land is dearer hero than in Great Britain. Of that we have, had evidence from time to time. Here is another instance. One of the directors of the National Bank, at its annual meeting in London, commenting on the development of the dairy industry in the North Island, said that he was through the Dominion a few months ago, and at the Hot Lakes, he met an old schoolfellow. I asked him "Are you still growing cattle as usual ?" " No," he said, " I cut up my farm into three and they are dairy farms." I said" What rental aie you getting per acre ?'' He replied "I am getting £2 for most of my land," which compared with the rental for agricultural or meadow land in England is, as you will see, a very great increase.
