Poetry of the Week.
VICTORY,
Hast thou a wish to be wise?— To live and be known in thy day? Combat and toil for the prize, And thou shalt the jewel display.
Centre thy thoughts and begin— Waste not a moment of time; Or the sluggard, recumbent within Will enfeeble the strength of thy prim«
All, to perform, have a task— Each his allotment assign'd, Up! and the spirit unmask— Walk in,.the light of the mind!
Temper thy actions with zeal, Keepi|^her.,ever in view; Thus shalt thou pierce as with steel— .Dare—and triumphantly do!
Onward ! determinate bent! Courage shall deepen thy skill! And Victory crown the ascent, .'mparting- its glorious thrill!
Soar above earthy desires, Disdaining: the worm and the sod; Fan intellectual fires, Leaning the spirit on God!
Thus shall the triumph be thine— Thou hast the Victory won; And thy name wi]th endurance shall shine, Resplendently bright as the sun. —W. H. Prideaux.
