“GAMBLING IN LIVES.”

CHARGES WITHDRAWN. London, Dec. 13. The Crown withdrew the charges against Captain Plummer, who was charged with attempting to defraud. the underwriters. The Board of Trade held an inquiry into the loss, of the Glendalongb near Belfast Longh, and the court found the loss was due to the wilful act of Captain Plummer, acting in concert with William James Jones, the owner, who insured the vessel foi £60,000, though the vanle, including her cargo, was only £17,000. “Jones recklessly, wickedly gambled not only tor money, but in the lives of men ” He was oriered to pay the costs of the inquiry, namely, £2500, and Plummer's certiorate was cancelled. r Subsequently William James Jones and Captain Plummer were arrested on a charg© of to defrand the underwriters.
