A committee of journalists passed a resolution demanding that a national protest be made against the Californian legislation. . The newspapers Kokumin, o* uDa “ hnn and Yorodzn Oboho, which led the outcry against California, simultaneously advocate appeals to the public opinion of the world, rather than to stronger courses. New York, Nov. 18. The American Missionary Society passed a resolution of sympathy for the Japanese inhabitants of California on account of the State s alien laws, declaring that the Japanese are the victims of Unchristian propaganda. The Association pledges its co-operation to bring about harmony hgrffween Japanese and Americans in California. Received Nov. 20, noon New York, Nov. 19 The Chicago Tribune’s Rome correspondent learns from the highest sources of the Papal Court that for months Benedict has feared an early outbreak of* hostilities between Japan and the United States and has been making evbry effort to postpone the eventnallity.
