MANGAWEKA NOTES.
From Oar Own Correspondent A most enjoyable social was held in the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday evening, the object being to get Mr Heard acquainted with his new parishioners r Mr Heard took over the charge on the departure of the Rev. McOaw. During the evenin'# solos were given by Mrs Lowry and Miss Laing, of Ohingaiti, and Miss Bowater, Miss Moore, Miss Krebs and Mr Albert and Ray Perry, of Mangaweka. Miss Araer gave a couple of recitations, and Rev. Evans of Hunteiville charmed the aud.ence with his songs ; The choir rendered several 'anthems which were well received. The ladies of the congregation provided a dainty A collection was taken up to buy £Tew hymn books and over £3 was given. The social was brought to a close by the singing of the Uosology.
Mrs E Managli gave , a very pleasant evening party at her residence op Wednesday evening to do honour to Mangaweka’a Catholic Qneen. Dancing and cards were indulged in and songs were given by Mrs Larmer, Mrs Jack Wright, Miss G Wright, Miss Thompson, Mr Fred Pederson and Mr Nettlefold. Mrs Jack Wright also obliged the company with a pianoforte solo. During the* evening a guessing competition was in progress and was tied for by Mrs - Byrne and Miss K Skipper. In the draw Miss Skipper succeeded in winning the handsome box of chocolates^ What might have been a very serious accident occurred on the Eawhatan Road on B’riday afternoon. Mr Roy Orowther was driving Noble’s motOE lorry round a nasty corner when t;he steering gear bent and sent the lorry over the bank. Mr Allan Wright was also on board, but luckily both men were thrown clear and escaped ' with a few scratches and some torn clothes. The lorry turned two somersaults and'then righted itself and went oh to the bottom of the Incline. Some tins o£ benzine on board were smashed to pulp, and Mr Crowther got soaked in the benzine when the tins burst. The bachelors of Mangaweka gave a ball on Friday night. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags hired from Taihape and greens fromthe bush The floor was crowded with dancers and was in perfect order The music was provided by three gentlemen from Taihape and was very much enjoyed by all A dainty sit down supper was partaken of and the dancing was kopt up till 330 and the ball was voted a great success by all The Oremona Family paid their second visit to Mangaweka oh Saturday night, but did not get such a large house as previously, the night being exceedingly wet and miserable, and then the ball tm Friday night stopped a number from attending on Saturday night
