LYRIC COSTUME COMEDY CO. . OPENING ON TUESDAY, lath. Popular success has bean achieved every where by the Lyric Quartette and Costume Comedy Co., whose admirable vocal attainments have deservedly placed them in the front rank of entertainers. The Quartette itself consists of Messrs Arthur Ripley, J W Ryan. Herbert Richards, and Alan McEUwaiu, and their art in harmonising is unsurpassed, while ■their solo work leaves nothing fo be desired. To hear them manipulate old nursery rhymes such as “Old Mother Hubbard,” “Little Tommy Went Fishing,” and others is a real delight, and when they veer round to “Annie Laurie” and dainty lullabies they are equally successful in captivating the audience. The Quartette possesses in a superlative degree the ability to please, and in the remainder of their company, which includes Miss Jessie Bartlett (a singer of artistic discrimination) and Miss Evelyn Harvey (an accomplished pianist j they have two further valuable assets. The Lyric Quartette will appear in the Marton Town Hall on Tuesday next "when they should be assured of a bumper house.
MARTON—TO-NIGHT. “THE CROOK OF DREAMS.” A spirited melodrama, with a popular Star in tue foreground, makes the new World Film production “Qrook o’ Dreams” an attractive programme, featuring Louise Huff, in the role of Constance Waldron, who gives a realistic characterisation of a young girl, kidnapped in her infaacj', is brought up by a pair of crooks, and lives in daily association with a son, Sam, a pickpocket. The final episode of .the Lightning Raider serial will also be screened at 7.46 sharp,
MONDAY,
“CHEATING THE PUBLIC.” Is the strike a fair weapon ? See how it is used in the William Pox melodrama “Cheating the Public’,’ to be shown at the Town Hall, Marton, on Monday. Some of the greatest efleots in the production are due to the remarkable character drawing done by members of the allstar cast, and Mr Lewis has m ore than performed his share in this respect. He plays the part of n man of greed—a man whose sole thought in life is of making money—who lives on the profits he squeezes from the public and from his own workers —a mean, educated, despicable, refined, domineering, heartless brute who dresses well and oats like a hog while liis employees go around in rags aui never get away from the verge of starvation. A good supporting programme, including the Kaiser’s New Cartoon, Australian Gazette, and Wild Women and Tamp Lions. A Sunshine Comic will also be screened. To avoid disappointment hook early at Mogridge’s.
