TRIBUTE FROM OROUA C. O,

Yestevdav Orona County Council had before it the following letter from its chairman, Or Hngh Bnrrell: "I regret that, owing to ill-health, I shall not be able to be present at your meeting to-day After giving careful consideration to the position atd in view of the fact: that a great deal of work lies before the Council during the balance of the year, I am convinced that unless one can give the closest attention to tiie position he is in duty bound to step aside and make room for a better man. With this conviction I beg to tender my resignation as a member for the Makino Riding on the Conncil. I must corstess that it is with the deepest regret that 1 take my leave of the Council with which I have been associated for so many yoars, and from wLose members I have received so mauy acts of kind consideration. " Or. Morrison said members must all hear this letter with regret. But there was no occasion for Or Bnrrell to resign The Oounoil should grant its chairman three months' leave of absence, and ask him to reconsider his resignation. He ruovtd in this direction. Cr. Vincent said they were all sorry indeed to leara of their chairman's illness, but they would certainly welcome Or. Bnrrell's return to the Council's table. They did not seen eye to eye at all times, bnt they certainly did appreciate their chairman. Or Pearce remarked that as there were only five more meetings for the present Oounoil when all the Councillors would go out of office, Cr Bnrrell should be asked to reconsider his resignation The motion was carried Members agreed to look after the needs and interests of the chairman in his Riding
