The Marine Court of Inquiry fonnd the charge against George Bates, master of the Westralia, of having recklessly or carelessly navigated the vessel was sustained, but in view of his previous record and his behaviour and also that of the crew after the occurrence the Court decided not to deal with his certificate, but censured and cautioned him.
