Received March 82, 11 a.m Sydney, March 33 The state of parties is—Labour 48, National 84, Progressive 8, Doubtful 6. 3o far only first preference voters have been counted, and absent and postal votes are unavailable, but there is every indication that Labour will not have more than 45 seats, enabling the Nationalists to carry on with the aid of the Progressives. Only 60 per cent of the electors voted and 7 per cent of the votes cast were informal. All Mie Ministers, except Mr Holman, appear safe. .i«45) Features were the rejection of all Socialist and women candidates and the failure of the Soldiers and Citizens’ Party. Should Mr Holman be defeated two elected Nationalists have offered to resign in his favour, but the new Act under which the elections were held makes no provision for a byelection until the new Parliament approves the necessary regulations.
