HUNTERVILLE NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent) A farewell social evening was tendered to Mr W. Kerr, manager Bank of Australasia, Hunterville, on Wednesday last at the Hunterville Club on the eve of his departure, he being transferred to another branch of the hank. when a large number of friends assembled from the surrounding districts to show their appreciation in losing one of the Grub’s highly respected members, who has taken an active part in the dab’saffairs for the past ten years. Mr T. Chisholm, chairman of the Club, proposed the toasts of the King and the Army and Navy, coupled with the names of General Meldrum and Lieut. Murray. General Meldrum in responding to the toast spoke a tew well chosen words relating to the sinking of the Emden on Cocos Island, and many little incidents being referred to during the campaign in Egypt and France. Mr in proposing a toast to the guest of the evening, spoke in glowing terms of his valuable services to the club in the capacity of secretary. At this juncture the chairman called upon Mr Kerr to accept a purse of .sovereigns of £SO, from the members of the Clnb as a mark ®f esteem in which ha was held. Mr Kerr responded suitanly and said he did not Ihink he could make as many friends in the next place of residence as he had made in Hunterville, and he trusted his successor would be as fortunate. Messrs McLean, L. J. Thompson, Dean and Gifford and General Meldrum rendered some topical jokes and recitations to the programme, which was highly appreciated by those present. Liquers were handed round at frequent intervals during the evening which helped the sparkling element to continue to the last. A most pleasant and enjoyable evening was concluded with the strains of Auld Lang Syne. HUNTERVILLE TOWN BOARD. The usual monthly meeting of above was held in the Town Board office on Monday, March Bth, the following members being present: Mr W H McLean (chairman ), Oommissitmera Earie> W 1 Igon, Jinspm. v Correspondence. was dealt wren from * * Messrs Howe, Bartlett and Howie for water supply to be connected to their respective houses in Ongo Road It was resolved — That the Town Board secure 500 ft of new fire hose from the Napier Brigade Supply Co. for the Hunterville Fire Brigade, and alsp supply couplings for hose and cost oi same. That the works committee inspect water culvert washed away at recent flood in Milne Street and to go into the matter of ferro concrete pipes for same, aad to ~report ac the nest meeting; also to inspect blockages in water channels caused by black- , "berries, etc. That 500 feet of rimu and 700 ft of totara be secured from Ohafcune for the repairing of bridges.
