, Technical education is of so great importance now, and is to be of so much greater importance in the future, that more attention must be paid to the subject; Soon there will be large electrical works in this district and we should make provision for the instruction of our own boys. If we do not we shall have to import experts while our own boys are passed over. Only the richer man’s son will be able to go to other centres to be trained and why should not the poor man’s son have a chance? Marton Technical School Committee is making strenuous efforts to have erected in Marton a large additional room to provide facilities for instruction in engineering subjects. Next week Mr La Trobe, Director of Technical Eduoa tion for New Zealand, will visit Marton to inquire into the matter. The people of Marton will be well avdised to arrange a strong deputation to urge the need on Mr La Trobe. They should point out firstly the splendid central position of Marton, suggesting the likelihood of great development in the future; secondly 'the overcrowded state of the small existing school and its unsuitability for engineering instruction; thirdly, the success with which the movement has been carried on in the past, for few places of similar size in New Zealand oau boast such a continuous large course of technical instruction; fourthly, in addition to electrical instruction, classes in motor engineering and in plumbing can be immediately proceeded with. Regarding the former no doubt dozens of adults will wish to take the preliminary courses in order to know more about the works of a car from an amateur’s point of view-
