THE ELECTIONS.
Per Press Assoeiaton. Wellington, October 29. In askiuE- the Prime Minister to •state when the elections would take place, the leader ot ! the Opposition said that nearlv three waekj ago the date of the elections for Australia had been announced, and now New Zealand should be able to do the same. There was no need to keep the date secret with a view of booking halls and that kind of thing. The Prime Minister said lie could not recollect any occasion ou which the Leader of the Opposition wss Prime Minister when he announced the date before the eud of the session. Sir Joseph Ward: "I believe you ; are right.*" ■ Mr Whitty: "But you can do better" The Prime' Minister: ''l intend to do better. So far as lam able to .judge, the elections will not be held before the second week in December. I am going to put my cards on the table, but I cannot commit myself until I have consulted the officers of the Electoral Department." If he were able to make a definite statement before the end of the session, as lie hoped, he would do so.
