United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Reuter. Copenhagen, Oct. 20. Advices from Berlin state that Yon Der Goltz arrived on the 19th. He recently telegraphed to Bermondt congratulating him on his successes at Riga. A semi-official statement says the Government disapproved of the telegram and only refrains from proceeding against You Her Goltz because he has resigned from the army. Stockholm, Oct, 20. A Foreign Office communique states that foreign legations and consulates in Petrograd, including the Swedish, were sacked by the Bolsheviks. London, Oct, 20. A South Russian commuuiq states: The Tsaritsin sector' is quiet owing to the Bolsheviks recuperating after the heavy loss sustained in their unsuccessful attempt of the 17th. Cossacks, continuing their advance westward of the Khoper river, routed a Bolshevik division, taking prisoner 5000 troops, with 27 guns. A column consisting of 10,000 Letts and Chinese, attacking westward of Orel, was enveloped, half surrounded and entirely destroyed. Following the Bolsheviks’ unexpected attack on the 15th by which they occupied Kleff, Deniken, with the aid of reinforcements, reoccupied the city except the western suburbs. The Bolsheviks have thus sustained very heavy' losses in the vain attempts to recover important territory lost during the past month. The Times. Bolshevik newspapers state: “A regiment of Jesus,” operating against the Bolshevists on the Eastern front, is composed of priests, deacons, and other ecclesiastics, clad in robes and stoles The regiment attacks carrying uplifted crosses and chanting prayers. This has a demoralising effect on the Rad Troops, who find no strength to resist the mystic power. The Communists are sending picked troops against the ! regiment. Correspondents describe the importamfipart priests are taking in Denikeu’s operations. Reuter. Helsingfors, Oct. 20. The north-west army yesterday occupied Pr.lkova, ten miles south of Petrograd. General YladimirolT, who recently escaped from Petrograd, has been appointed GovernorGeneral in anticipation of the fall of the capital. There was a heavy artillery duel yesterday between the fleet and the fortress at Erasna Jagorka. Afterwards a great lire and explosions were observed, it is believed in Oratieubaum. Loudon, Oct. 20. The War Office learns that Yudenitch’s line on Sunday evening was within eight miles cf Petrograd. The Bolshevik counter-offensive was apparently broken, Yudonitch finally' retaining Gatchina.
