SCHOOL COMMITTEES' CONFERENCE.

Per Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 1. A conference of representative School Committees’ Associations opened to-day. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., presided. The chairman considered education had been starved, and moved a motion urging that the Government increase the annual grant to at least £3,000,000. This was carried. It was decided that a federation of School Committees’ Associations be formed. Among the resolutions carried was one rocommendiiig that an additional capitation allowance of 2s should bo made by the Department. The Government was urged to supply all primary school books and requisites free, and no concession or subsidies be granted to private schools.
