A certified copy of the Amir's orders to the commander of the Afghan eastern army, and presumably to other commanders, states that: fAccording to information received from the Government of India, fighting had occurred owing to~~some misunderstanding. The Indian Government, therefore, was ordering the commander to suspend hostilities until the door of communication opened. “As we had no intern ion of fighting with this old friend of ours, and were obliged to take defensive measures, now that he also desires peace, we order and command you to keep back your regular troops, and trines for whom we are responsible, and await further orders. ’ ’ The letter adds: “You should, however, keep in view defensive and offensive operations while awaiting the result of the discussion between the Indian and Afghan Governments.” ,It is dated May 27th. ENEMY FORCES BOMBED. Simla, June 3. Enemy forces near Thai were again bombed and machine-gunned by airmen. No Afghan troops now remain east of the Kurram Hi^or. WAR WITH THE BOLSHEVIKS. ASTRAKHAN BOMBED. London, June 3. British airmen stationed at Baku successfully bombed warehouses, docks and shipping at "Astrakhan where the Bolshevist naval forces consist of ten torpedo boats, a few armed merchantmen, and two old submarines.
