A BID FOR MARTON.

WANGANUI SWIMMING CENTRE PROPOSED ALTERATION OP BOUNDARIES. At a meeting of the Wanganui Centre of the N.Z.A.S C., held yesterday afternoon, it was decided to enter an emphatic protest against the proposal to cut Marton out of the Wanganui Centre and add it to the new centre being established at Palmerston North. It was contended that there was no community of interest between Marton and Palmerston North, whereas the reverse was the case in respect to Wanganui. This district’s centre had always done its best to assist swimming at Marton, and had always sent teams down to augment local interest when carnivals were being held. Marton swimmers had reciprocated, and a fine sportsmanlike feeling existed between the two towns. It was thought that Palmerston was entitled to the Oroua territory, up as far as Feilding, and anything north of that township right fully belonged to Wanganui. Mention was made of the fact that it was intended to inaugurate school end intermediate championships next season in connection with Wanganui district schools, apart altogether from the West Coast School Championships conducted by the Centre on behalf of the New Zealand Swimming Association.
